Regional Economy Shows Resilience Despite National Slowdown

31 March 2026 — Business Reporter

Local business indicators continued to outperform the national average
in March 2026, according to figures released by the regional chamber of
commerce. Employment in the services sector grew by 1.8% quarter-on-quarter,
driven by hospitality, logistics and technology services. The construction
sector showed a modest contraction of 0.4%, attributed to rising material
costs and tighter credit conditions affecting residential projects.
Chamber president noted that the region's diversified economic base has
helped cushion the impact of broader macroeconomic headwinds, and expressed
cautious optimism for the remainder of the year pending clarity on
European monetary policy.
